Additional details:
Who is Invited:
All McGill students and recent McGill graduates, especially from Engineering Departments, School of Architecture, and School of Computer Science, and graduate students in engineering and computer science, are invited to come to the Winter Tech Fair taking place in late January. This is an opportunity to learn about employment related to your field of study and your preferred area of employment. Typical starting dates for these employers would be in 2008, in January, May or August be it for interns or for graduating students.
Targetted to:
Students entering their final semester or final year typically feel as if the Tech Fair is tailor-made for them, but penultimate year students (the year before final year) may actually benefit as much, and sometimes more, from discussing employment prospects with company reps well ahead of entering the job market. First and second year students tend to shy away from speaking with company reps thinking that employers don't want to meet them; you need to realize that gathering contacts helps you to build a network of resources that you can call on for help when the time comes. Also, try to find out what constitutes a useful first or second year summer experience that the companies will respect and, more important, that will help you build general skills.
Registration:
All McGill students attending the TechFair should carry a valid McGill ID card in order to get access to the event. Cards will be scanned at the entrance.
Dress code:
It is preferred that you dress 'business casual' and not wear jeans and T-shirts; however, we tolerate the'neat and clean' look.
Taking Place:
Most companies will be attending only 1 of the 2 days although a few will opt for 2 days. There is no difference between one day and the other days as far as the type of company or the discipline being recruited. To profit fully, you should be available to visit company booths on both days.
Where:
New Residence Hall, 3625 Avenue du Parc, Montreal, Quebec, H2X 3P8.
Organizers:
The McGill University Technology Career Fair Organizing Committee 2008-2009. This Committee is run by the Faculty of Engineering Career Centre, the McGill Engineering Undergraduate Society and the McGill Computer Science Undergraduate Society and is directed by the McGill Engineering Career Centre with assistance from a team of 20 students from all departments of Engineering, and the Schools of Computer Science & Architecture.
Contact Info:
For more information, contact the Engineering Career Centre at 514-398-8100 or stop by their office, FDA 22.
Workshops to Prepare:
Take the time to learn how the recruitment process works, the role of the Engineering Career Centre, what should your expectations be, and what are your responsibilities. Information about applying to permanent jobs and internships, what are company information sessions, good resume writing and interview preparation will be provided.
